Church Farm School Graduate to Match Donations for New Uniforms for Wrestling Program

By

Last December, Art Smith, the longtime wrestling coach at Church Farm School, celebrated the 300th win of his career. CFS is hoping to offset the cost of new wrestling uniforms through a fundraiser, in which donations will be matched by an alumnus of the school.

Sebastian Corrales, who will graduate in June, arrived at Church Farm School six years ago looking for a more rigorous educational environment and a strong wrestling program.

He found both at CFS.

Just this week, the Philadelphia native learned he was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy (pending Congressional nomination) and began his final season on the Church Farm School wrestling team under longtime coach Art Smith. While Corrales came to CFS with significant wrestling experience and skill, he is the exception and not the rule.

Most CFS families do not have the financial wherewithal to enroll their sons in league sports, and for many, tryouts are their first time stepping on a mat. Despite this, the school’s wrestling program has grown to become one of the strongest and largest in the state, routinely sending wrestlers to compete at the regional, district and state levels.

The program needs your help. A generous alumnus of Church Farm School, Steve Marcus, Class of 1973, has pledged to match all donations up to $5,000 for new wrestling uniforms, which includes a mix of traditional singlets and the contemporary two-piece compression shirt and fight shorts.
