Actor Bradley Cooper is making his directorial debut with the third remake of the legendary movie A Star is Born, writes Taffy Brodesser-Akner for The New York Times.

The film tells the story of a male star who takes a woman from obscurity, then ends up watching her celebrity rise above his, with terrible consequences.

According to Cooper, there was a lot of himself in the story when he created Jackson Maine, an earnest rockstar who cannot bear to see his music turned into a commercial tool.

With The New York Times, Cooper discusses his own sobriety and how he had lost his father when he was very young. His father was a stockbroker and his mother worked for an NBC affiliate. He is also a big Eagles fan and used to have posters on the walls of his bedroom.

Cooper grew up in Jenkintown and graduated from Germantown Academy before going to the Actors Studio for his M.F.A. During his career, he has worked with several renowned directors, including Todd Phillips and Clint Eastwood.
