Sports gambling – of the legal variety – may be coming to Delaware County, after Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino in Chester submitted an application to offer what is now legal all across the country, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.

Harrah’s is only the third of the state’s 13 casinos to apply for the license, which is accompanied by a $10 million fee.

“Harrah’s Philadelphia possesses the financial integrity, stability, and responsibility required to successfully implement and operate sports wagering,” states the application filed with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

It said that Harrah’s Philadelphia would be able to draw from the experience of its parent company, Caesars Entertainment, which already conducts sports betting in several states.

According to the application, adding sports betting to its stable of slots and table games would create 10 more permanent jobs. The casino also submitted a hiring plan that will pull from “diverse groups and Commonwealth residents” to fill those positions.

The application also states that, if the license is granted, residents would realize significant economic benefits from the fee, taxes, and local share assessments.
