76ers star Ben Simmons has teamed up with a Chadds Ford-based nonprofit, Operation Warm, to help children stay warm this winter with new coats, writes DeArbea Walker for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Simmons recently showed up at William Cramp Elementary School in Kensington, where he surprised students with 750 coats.

“I realized more, now, being here and seeing their faces and knowing they’re going through a lot in terms of missing class and things like that because of the cold,” said Simmons. “So for me to be able to give them a new coat means a lot.”

Before he arrived at the school, students danced with Franklin, the 76ers’ mascot. When Simmons arrived, he addressed the students, who were then directed to tables where they could pick up their new coats.
