Staffers at Immaculata University are using the time when students are away for summer break to volunteer at the Chester County Food Bank, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

Around a dozen of the university’s staff members donated their time to help with the Food Bank’s mission to provide healthy food to the approximately 80,000 people in Chester County who struggle with food insecurity.

Larry Welsch, the Food Bank’s Executive Director, said the nonprofit would not be able to do its job without the help of its volunteers.

“This is a good thing to do and it makes you feel good when doing something that helps someone else,” said Vicki Sharpless, Immaculata’s admissions counselor. “It’s great that Immaculata lets us take the time off from work to give back.”

The Chester County Food Bank is the central hunger relief organization for the area. It serves more than 120 organizations in the county, while distributing more than 3 million pounds of food.
