Dozens of local nonprofit leaders will gather at Temenos Retreat Center in West Chester on Thursday, July 12 for a celebration of what inspires them to lead, innovate, and champion the common good.

Summer Camp X is the 10th annual summer camp where Chester County nonprofits explore, learn, and have fun together. It’s the brainchild of Jason Alexander and his wife, Meghan McVety, the co-founders of Capacity for Change. Driven by their shared commitment to strengthening the public sector, the couple created the public interest consulting firm in 2001.

“We each have a deeply rooted passion for social justice and philanthropy,” said Alexander, who is also chair of the board at the Brandywine Health Foundation.

Alexander has helped nonprofit, philanthropic, government, and other social value organizations to design and implement mission-driven, innovative, and sustainable strategic plans, partnerships, and business models.

McVety, who believes that cultivating strong leadership in organizations and communities best achieves positive change, has helped numerous organizations to re-think and improve their internal and external approaches, leading to breakthroughs in their communities. She is a former board member of the Chester County Community Foundation and a current board member of Unite for HER.

“Nonprofits are not always recognized for the value they create and bring to the community,” said Alexander. “So, with the summer camp, we aimed to create something special, something fun and casual that gave leaders the opportunity to come together to celebrate.”

Alexander and McVety will share their expertise at Summer Camp X as attendees spend the day discovering what inspires them to lead positive social change, explore strategies to amplify their roles as influencers, and share ideas about how to nurture organizational cultures and individual commitments that inspire change.

It’s a motivating event made for people seeking to connect with peers in fun and meaningful ways.

  • Lou Beccaria, CEO of the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation
  • Vanessa Briggs, CEO of the Brandywine Health Foundation
  • Beth Harper Briglia, Vice President of the Chester County Community Foundation
  • Claudia Hellebush, CEO of the United Way of Chester County
  • Michelle Legaspi Sanchez, Executive Director of the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls

Alexander and McVety will award two grants at Summer Camp X from their donor-advised fund at the Chester County Community Foundation.

“I left feeling rejuvenated, excited, connected, engaged, inspired, informed,” said a past participant in the summer camp. “I went straight from summer camp to our board meeting and could not stop talking about the experience and what I learned. I was quite wound up with enthusiasm.”
