Rich Philadelphians Choose Blending In Over Flaunting Their Wealth

By

Being rich in Philadelphia has changed drastically in the last several decades, shifting from flagrantly flaunting one’s wealth to blending in, writes Christine Speer Lejeune for Philadelphia magazine.

“Yeah, you don’t see too many limos anymore,” said Marc Brownstein, president and CEO of the Brownstein Group. “Most people take Ubers.”

And it’s not just the type of transportation. Clothes that were once a clear indicator of somebody’s deep pockets are now unified across the board, with everyone wearing yoga pants and jeans.

Today, the rich spend their money on meditation rooms and stem-cell micro-needling, which is a $300 process that infuses the face with human stem cells, resulting in younger-looking skin.

Vacation trips are now among the biggest expense, with people taking their children to amazing places where very few other people can afford to go. There are also other “inconspicuous consumption” items such as premium healthcare and a pricey education that set the rich apart, without being obvious.

In essence, the best way these days to recognize a rich person in Philadelphia is not to look for a pile of stuff, but to see who lives the best lives.
