Phoenixville native Mitchell Gibson – a goalie with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), one of the top junior leagues in the U.S. – was drafted by the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals in the NHL Draft.

Gibson, 19, who attended and played ice hockey at Owen J. Roberts High School, was selected 124th overall in the fourth round of the draft.

He will attend the Capitals Prospect Development Camp at the end of June. This year, Gibson was recognized as the NAHL’s Goaltender of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

He also tied an NAHL record by posting 11 shutouts in one regular season and finished with an overall record (including playoffs) of 31-10-9.

Gibson finished the regular season leading the NAHL in goals against average (1.59) and save percentage (93.5 percent).

He will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2019 after one more year of playing junior hockey with the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the USHL.
