The Frontline Research & Learning Institute – a Malvern-based company that provides data-driven research, resources, and observations to support and advance the educational community – has named Hanna Skandera, New Mexico’s former Secretary of Education, as editor-in-chief of The Line.

The Line is a publication that encourages civil discourse among K-12 education leaders.

In addition to serving as New Mexico’s Secretary of Education, Skandera was also the Undersecretary of Education in California, a Deputy Education Commissioner in Florida, and the Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Education.

She will take over from John Deasy, the publication’s co-founder and first editor-in-chief, after he resigned to lead the Stockton (Calif.) Unified School District.

“I am grateful for John Deasy’s commitment to The Line,” said Elizabeth Combs, the managing director of Frontline Research & Learning Institute. She said that his leadership and passion for education were instrumental in launching the publication.

“I am confident that Hanna Skandera will take us to the next level as we evolve The Line and deliver on its promise of creating civil discourse around the most challenging K-12 issues,” said Combs.
