Manfredi Cold Storage has added 70,000-square-feet with a Steel King drive-in rack system at its Kennett Square facility, writes Tom Karst for The Packer.

This latest expansion brings the total cold storage space at the Chester County facility to 400,000-square-feet, with the possibility of further expansion under discussion.

The distributor currently handles fruit, vegetables, and other food from 22 countries. The facility provides retailers with wireless real-time inventory, and access to products stored between zero and 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

The most recent expansion also saw the addition of around 4,000 pallets of refrigerated storage capacity with the Steel King SK3000 pallet rack, which is a bolted rack with structural channel columns.

According to Rob Wharry, director of operations at Manfredi’s Kennett Square facility, the facility has chosen the rugged drive-in rack system designed by Steel King Industries.

“About 150 to 200 truckloads of product move in and out of our storage every day, so the drive-in rack needs to be very durable and accessible,” said Wharry.

He added that the cold storage company has almost exclusively used Steel King for the last 13 years as the company makes a very durable product.
