WCU Grad Dons Superhero Costume in New Hit Show on The CW Network
West Chester University graduate Nafessa Williams is donning a superhero costume in The CW Network’s new hit show, Black Lightning, writes Kimberly Roberts for The Philadelphia Tribune.
Williams plays the daughter of the show’s title character, who returns to his superhero days to save the city he lives in after a nine-year retirement.
Despite earning a Criminal Justice degree from WCU, Williams always wanted to be an actress.

“It was something I always wanted to do,” she said Williams. “I’d watch The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and I’d look at the little brown girls and be inspired by them.”
Prior to her new role, Williams appeared in The Bold and the Beautiful, Twin Peaks, and Jamal Hill’s Streets. However, her career got a boost playing Anissa in Black Lightning.
“I fell in love with the story and wanted to be a part of the first Black superhero family on network TV,” she said.
