Wayne’s Tekni-Plex is hoping to keep products safe using its new Sniff Seal, writes Jim Johnson for Plastics News.

The company has recently received a patent for Sniff Seal, the first closure liner that has been induction sealed so that it can be permeated with the product’s scent.

The Sniff Seal gives customers a chance to smell a product within a sealed container without compromising the packaging.

“There are many instances where consumers want to know what a product actually smells like before putting it in the shopping cart,” said David Andrulonis, senior vice president and general manager at Tri-Seal, a business unit of Tekni-Plex.

If there is a seal on that product, he said, consumers will sometimes peel it back to experience the scent before buying it.

Sniff Seal prevents the tampering by putting the product’s scent in the liner.

“Imagine being able to experience the smell of fresh peanut butter or mango-scented shampoo or spring-fresh deodorant in a retail aisle without removing the seal?”  said Andrulonis. “That’s what Sniff Seal brings to the purchasing experience.”
