Roadside America, the decades-old Berks County attraction known as the world’s greatest indoor miniature village, is up for sale, writes Michael Boren for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The village is the lifetime work of Laurence Gieringer, who started building models as a boy in Reading. He continued to add models to the village until it filled almost 8,000 square feet in Shartlesville. The attraction opened in 1953 and has remained almost the same, even following Gieringer’s death 10 years later.

Roadside America is currently run by his granddaughter, Dolores Heinsohn, and sees nearly 100,000 guests each year. However, maintaining the business has become increasingly difficult, which has prompted the current owners to put it on the market.

“Running any business is difficult, and a business as unique as Roadside America requires more time and energy than most people may realize,” Roadside America wrote in a Facebook post. “The family is currently looking for someone who loves Roadside America and would like to assume ownership of the business.”

The business is listed online for $2,295,000.

An auction to clear out excess inventory and equipment will be held on May 5. Pieces from the display itself will not be included.
