Ag Literacy Week

As part of National Ag Literacy Week, Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone visited the West Chester Area Daycare Center to talk to kindergarteners about the important role farms play in our daily lives.

“Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use, and wear,” said Cozzone. “It’s Chester County’s No. 1 industry, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help children in our community learn more about where our food comes from.

“My fellow Commissioners and I appreciate all of the farmers and agriculture professionals in Chester County who work hard to provide it for us.”

Saloon 151

Saloon 151 in West Chester recently won ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester’s Seventh Annual Chef’s Best competition with a dish that consisted of bacon bourbon meatball with spicy mango pica and dill crème fraiche.

“This was our biggest Chef’s Best to date, and we are so grateful to the restaurants, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made it happen,” said ACT in Faith Board President Denise Antonelli.

Proceeds from the event support ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, an interfaith organization that seeks to empower un- and under-employed West Chester residents to stabilize their households and build toward sustainability.

25th Annual Sheriff’s Community Golf Classic

The public is invited to get into the swing of this popular event held by the Chester County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, May 14. The classic will take place at the Downingtown Country Club from 11 AM-9 PM, and its proceeds help to fund a variety of community programs.

Chester County Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh said she appreciates the community support the event has received, especially now that the K-9 Unit, which operates primarily with donated funds, has proven to be such a valuable community resource.

“Our K-9 services have been recognized for their professionalism and efficiency, which has resulted in their services being requested by numerous townships, county, state, and federal agencies,” said Welsh.
