The postgame interview of Nick Foles was a clear indicator of why the quarterback, who took over just two months before the Big Game, managed to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to its first Super Bowl championship, writes Justin Bariso for Inc. magazine.

Instead of telling everybody he knew all along he would make it, he said that just a few years ago he almost gave up on football. He remained calm and collected while retelling his struggles, projecting the same image that he did during the game.

He also provided a major lesson in leadership, by praising everyone around him.

“I think the big thing that helped me was the knowledge I didn’t have to be Superman,” he said. “I have amazing teammates and amazing coaches around me. All I had to do was just go and play as hard as I could.”

What makes this statement so powerful is the fact that he did play like Superman, managing to become the first player in Super Bowl history to both throw and receive a touchdown pass.

However, his poise and humility during the interview clearly showed what great leadership is really about.
