A chance meeting between Monique Raguet Jones and Paul Jones in Kennett Square has led to four decades of happy marriage and counting, writes Tom Davidson for the Beaver County Times.

The two were not always as happy, as both lived through World War II as children, Monique being born in the midst of war in her native France. After the horrors of her childhood, she worked as a translator for NATO before she met and married an American soldier. She followed him to the U.S. and settled into an unhappy marriage.

Paul, who served stateside during the Koran War, also married and settled in Kennett Square. He worked as a controller for a mushroom company, which led to the meeting with Monique. He came in for his paycheck one week in the 1970s when he was off sick, and immediately caught Monique’s eye.

“It was love at first sight,” Monique said. “I remember when he walked in the door.”

They were friends for four years and remained in their first marriages until their children were grown.

Once Monique moved to Miami, Paul followed her there. They married in 1980, and have been happy ever since.
