The Resident Theatre Company Named to ‘Best of Philly’ List

By

West Chester's Resident Theatre Company is making waves in the Philadelphia theater community. Clockwise from top: Hanna Gaffney & Mark Woodard in Monty Python's Spamalot, Alex G. Kunz and Nikki Van Cassele in Next to Normal, and Rajeer Alford & Mark Woodard in A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play.

It wouldn’t be a new year without critics rolling out their end-of-year-favorites lists, trying to get their say in on the best cultural sights before awards season kicks into high gear. Such was the case last month at the Philadelphia Inquirer theatre critics’ desk.

John Timpane, the Inquirer’s veteran culture reporter listed his critics’ favorite musicals, plays, and premiers of  2017–the year he called a “glittering year [for] theater in and around Philadelphia.”

Included in the Inquirer’s ‘Best of Philly’ list for the first time is The Resident Theatre Company, the upstart professional theatre company that’s placed West Chester on the map.

Last year RTC launched their first main stage show with Monty Python’s Spamalot, then followed it up with Next to Normal, the musical Inquirer critic Julia M. Kleine called “a profoundly moving evening of theater.”

The Resident Theatre Company ended the year on a festive note with A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play and is preparing to open its production of Bullets Over Broadway, the musical based on the award-winning Woody Allen film, on March 30 at the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale now.
