Good Samaritan Services in Phoenixville has received a donation of more than $2,400 from employees of Benchmark Federal Credit Union who donated their personal funds to the charitable organization.

Every Friday, Benchmark employees have the opportunity to wear jeans to work in exchange for a monthly donation to a local nonprofit. At the end of the year, the funds are donated.

A check was recently presented to the staff of Good Samaritan Services, which provides safe, comfortable housing for approximately 400 people per year who are experiencing homelessness in Chester and Lancaster counties.

The nonprofit owns eight properties, serving about 50 guests in shelters and short-term housing. An additional 40 women and 80 children are served every day in the Permanent Housing Services program.

“Our new branch is located in the heart of Phoenixville, not far from Good Samaritan’s shelter for men, so we wanted to be sure we supported such a good neighbor,” said Rebecca Worthington, Benchmark’s Vice President of Marketing. “As the only federal credit union to serve Chester County exclusively, we are committed to partnering with organizations that ensure the well-being of our community.”

Benchmark supports more than 20 community events and organizations every year. It also provides $15,000 in college scholarships to local students and offers a free, award-winning financial literacy curriculum in more than 59 public schools across Chester County.
