QVC's Craig Smith, left, will emcee the Friends Association's annual West Chester Charity Ball, while Joseph “Skip” Brion will receive the 2017 Friend of the Community Award.

The Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children – a West Chester-based nonprofit that promotes the independence of families with children by providing shelter, programs, and services that prevent and end homelessness in Chester County – invites guests to its 29th Annual West Chester Charity Ball.

This holiday gala, on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 6:30-11 PM at the West Chester Golf and Country Club, is a part of West Chester’s Old Fashioned Christmas. It also represents the Friends Association’s largest fundraiser and is essential in funding the important work it does to improve the community.

All proceeds benefit the mission of the Friends Association: preventing and ending family homelessness in the community. Last year, the nonprofit saved more than 124 families and 247 children from homelessness.

The Friends Association will honor the longtime work and support of Joseph “Skip” Brion with the 2017 Friend of the Community Award. Brion serves as the Chairman of Buckley, Brion, McGuire & Morris, and has been named as one of Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers by Philadelphia magazine. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority, and is a member of the DNB First Advisory Board.

Formerly, Brion served as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, Chairman of the Republican Committee of Chester County, and as a member of the Board of Directors for SEPTA and a Trustee of the Chester County Historical Society.

The Midnight Hour Band

“I am so excited to be a part of honoring Skip Brion, and I hope that the community will join us,” said Catherine Friedman, the Friends Association’s Executive Director. “This year’s Charity Ball brings a night full of sensational entertainment, featuring celebrity emcee Craig Smith of QVC, and exceptional live and silent auctions. Enjoy a delectable dinner and festive cocktails, while dancing the night away to The Midnight Hour Band featuring Pepper Duffy.”

This year’s silent auction features many exciting items, including Walt Disney World Park Hopper passes and airfare, and designer handbags from Kate Spade New York. Featured live auction items are four tickets to the Broadway musical Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a gourmet dinner for 10 with wine pairings, and a one-week vacation at a villa in southern Spain.

“I am so pleased about this year’s West Chester Charity Ball because of the community support, but, also, because this year’s gala will again be ‘digital’ with online auction previews and bidding,” said Friedman. “People can even bid from home.”
