With the holidays soon upon us, you know what they say: ’tis the season …

… for ugly sweaters?

That’s right. Just ask First Resource Bank and Guys 4 Good.

Now’s the time of year to ditch the business attire and break out the ugly sweaters. And these two organizations are partnering to allow you to do it in the name of charity.

Guys 4 Good is a social networking community with a goal to do charitable work and build relationships. Its philanthropic members meet monthly throughout Greater Philadelphia to raise awareness and highlight different charities and causes.

In coordination with Guys 4 Good, First Resource Bank, which was recently voted the Best Bank in Chester County by readers of the Daily Local News, will host an Ugly Sweater Business Card Exchange on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 5:30-8:30 PM at its West Chester branch located at 844 Paoli Pike.

All are invited. A $20 donation is required at the door, and you can enjoy light food and drinks and a chance to win a piggy bank stuffed with cash. Prizes will be given for the best, ugliest sweaters, and the beneficiary of the event is Homers for Hope.

“Guys 4 Good was born out of the idea that, when people get together, there’s an opportunity to raise money and awareness,” said Richard Shane, the group’s organizer and a real estate agent with RE/MAX. “A lot of charities focus on one, main event each year, and there aren’t a lot of other opportunities throughout the year for them to fill in the gaps and introduce or re-introduce themselves to the public.

“Guys 4 Good tries to help in that regard.”

Homers for Hope is a nonprofit that raises money for local families who are struggling financially due to a tragic event. It does so through networking events, business luncheons, baseball clinics and exhibition games, softball games and tournaments, home-run derbies, and more.

In the last few years alone, Homes for Hope has paid more than $150,000 worth of bills for more than 20 families in the area.

It’s a charity close to the heart of John Durso, senior vice president at First Resource Bank.

“Homers for Hope started when a friend of mine was killed in an accident,” he said. “A bunch of us got together, went to a Little League field, and started to play home-run derby. We passed the hat around and raised whatever we could for his widow.

“We quickly found out that there are lots of other people who are experiencing similarly tragic events, and they need help too. So we kept getting together, and it kept getting bigger and raising more money. A couple of years later, we formed this foundation, and now we’re renting stadiums and doing all types of baseball and softball stuff to help these families.”
