The United States Seating Company, which is based in Exton and engineers world-class seating for many types of vehicles, recently participated in a Day of Caring at the Gordon Early Literacy Center in Coatesville.

USSC team members volunteered at 25 stations featuring arts, crafts, physical activities, and outdoor games for more than 350 children as part of the center’s Fall Harvest event.

Other team members were able to donate time for school maintenance. USSC employees spruced up the building by painting, helping to construct a Resource Center for parents and children, and hanging students’ artwork on bulletin boards around the school.

Thanks to the generosity of the Krapf School Bus Company, the USSC team traveled to Coatesville in donated transportation. The team also donated toys, learning materials, and activities to the Gordon Early Literacy Center.

Days of Caring are organized by the United Way of Chester County to connect corporate and civic volunteers with meaningful community-service projects. These projects help nonprofits offset their operating costs and direct more funds to program services.

USSC’s Day of Caring is part of the United Way’s partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Head Start and UNIFY programs. The three organizations are working together to reach more children with high-quality preschool programming, preparing them for school and lifelong success.

“Children who attend preschool enter kindergarten with better pre-reading skills, richer vocabularies, and stronger basic math skills than those who do not,” said Terry Kenworthy, Vice President of Community Investment at the United Way. “Thanks to United States Seating, our youngest learners will receive a memorable educational experience they may not have otherwise had access to.”
