With more than a billion bottles produced each year, Pennsylvania is the nation’s largest producer of craft beer, thanks to breweries like Victory, writes Joel Shannon for the York Daily Record.
Craft beer still a niche industry, only accounting for around 12 percent of all beer sales nationwide, but a thriving one nonetheless.
This is partly because Pennsylvania offers craft breweries significant logistical benefits, such as easy access to distribution routes, local agricultural support, and plenty of clear water.
According to Daniel LaBert, the executive director of Brewers of Pennsylvania, the state’s high output of craft beer is helped by the combination of large craft breweries, the growing number of regional brewers, and a flourishing group of local brew pubs.
“The smoky bar on the corner is now being replaced with a community friendly, family friendly brew pub that focuses on grain to glass,” said LaBert.
