The Chester County Historical Society Library is a vital resource for anyone wanting to learn more about local history and looking to discover their family roots, writes Natalie Smith for the Chester County Press.

The library offers a wealth of resources that can help even the novice investigator. These include Chester County history publications, files on family names, newspaper clippings, church records, census records, and maps.

The library stores information, like records and newspapers, on microfilm, as well as on CD-ROM. It is home to a collection of more than 100,000 photographs revolving around Chester County.

According to Jasmine Smith, CCHS librarian, there are family folders, published genealogies, old newspapers, and a manuscript catalogue all sorted alphabetically to help people find out more about their family history.

“So they’re very accessible resources,” said Smith, adding that people should not be shy about asking for help.

You “might be surprised about some of the material we have,” she said. “And if we don’t have something, we’re pretty good about telling you where you might find it.”
