Aerzen USA’s Ralf Weiser leads SEI participants on a tour of the new facility.

Aerzen is a globally-acting, family-owned company with subsidiaries and trading partners in the most industrialized countries of the world. The company was founded in Aerzen, Germany in 1864 and has grown to 21,000 employees world-wide.  Among those are the more than 100 people who work at Aerzen USA in Coatesville.

Operating under a “Triple Bottom Line” philosophy of people, planet, and prosperity that helps drive the company’s decision-making, Aerzen USA recently unveiled a new 40,000 square foot of new space that boasts LEED certification, solar panels, solar tube lighting, geothermal heating, earth tube cooling, rain collection tanks, rain gardens, a food bank vegetable garden, turf paver fire lanes,  day lighting, recycled wood beams, concrete with 40% recycled content, 100% on-site storm water infiltration and other sustainable innovations.

“We are very much interested in helping the county meet its Vista 2025 goals,” said Aerzen manager and Manufacturing Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties (MACC/DC) chairman Ralf Weiser. “We are kind of an example of how manufacturing has come back. We can do a green building and make it significant and make it profitable.”

Organized in partnership with the Smart Energy Initiative of Southeastern PA (SEI), an initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council as is MACC/DC, Aerzen opened the doors on its new $7 million expansion for a tour.

SEI board chair, Bill Ronayne of Brandywine Valley Heating & Air Conditioning noted that Aerzen “has a high regard for business ethics as well as providing their customers with a very high-quality product.  The business itself is run very efficiently and I am especially pleased to see how they value the environment.”

Steve Krug of Krug Architects helped organize the event on behalf of SEI added that “Aerzen’s Triple Bottom Line is a great organizational philosophy, and this energy efficient building will promote a happy and healthy work environment.  The gain is the highest productivity possible.”

The addition doubles the office footprint and adds 30 percent more manufacturing capacity which will no doubt help Aerzen USA reach its target revenue of $100 million.
