Malvern’s Gil Hanse discusses hand-finishing the details for all of his courses and working for Donald Trump.

Malvern resident Gil Hanse, the renowned golf course architect, believes that the hand-finished touches on all of his designs are of crucial importance, writes Joe Passov for Golf.com.

“That’s what you have to do to get the level of detail required,” he said.

He said that final touches might involve tiny changes made with a rake or a Sand Pro tractor.

“It’s a commitment in our minds, an understanding, that that’s the best way to build a golf course,” he said.

Hanse has designed 16 original courses during his career, and has overseen the renovation and restoration of 40 others. He has also worked on several courses for Donald Trump.

Trump “was great to work with,” said Hanse. “He gave us the freedom to concentrate on details. He’s an owner whose foremost goal is quality golf, and he has the financial resources to back up that vision.”
