Exton Experiencing a Development Renaissance

Exton is seeing a renewed interest from developers, resulting in a growing number of diverse projects being constructed in the area, writes Brian McCullough for the Daily Local News.
“There’s a lot happening now,” said Mimi Gleason, West Whiteland’s township manager. “A lot of it is because of the economy, the pent-up demand, and a lot of it is because the three supervisors we have now wanted to encourage redevelopment.”

There are more than 20 developments currently planned for the area. A lot of these are housing developments, such as Hankin Group’s Kava Flats project that will construct five buildings with 240 apartments along Lincoln Highway. Meanwhile, Parkview at Oaklands – a four-building, 291-unit apartment complex – is being built close to Exton Shopping Center.
Other projects include the proposed New Horizons Montessori Academy for the Boy Scouts of America. A new CVS drug store and a new Whole Foods are also coming.
This is a far cry from nine years ago, when development in the township had almost stopped.
“For several years, we didn’t approve a single housing unit,” said John Weller, West Whiteland’s zoning officer. “So there is a pent-up demand.”
