It threw the right punches to expand from television to the Internet and smartphone screens, and with its big buyout of Home Shopping Network, West Chester-based QVC is now in the ring with heavyweights Amazon and Walmart.

“The news on the QVC/HSN merge just sent ripples throughout the direct response and e-commerce space — ripples that are especially being felt by Amazon and Walmart, as a finalized merger would position QVC/HSN as the third-largest e-commerce company in North America,” said TeleBrands CEO A.J. Khubani in a Retail Dive report by Daphne Howland.

“There’s one thing for certain — it’s only a matter of time before those ripples become waves.”

The powerful combination of the QVC and HSN forces is especially threatening in light of the fact that Amazon and Walmart “increasingly rely on their marketplaces (and third-party sellers) for sales,” the article explained.

“With a merger of this scale, you should expect to see groundbreaking innovation across television-enabled commerce and entirely novel shopping experiences to capture the modern consumer,” Khubani said.
