Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil is helping local Boy Scouts earn a $5 million merit badge for fundraising.

The legendary NFL mentor is bringing a handful of football dignitaries and his annual Dick Vermeil Boy Scouts Invitational back to the Ron Jaworski-owned Downingtown Country Club on June 20, according to a Daily Local News report by Michael Rellahan.

Vermeil, Jaworski, current Eagles coach Doug Pederson, and broadcaster Mike Quick all headline the golf tournament that will benefit the fundraising effort for a new $5 million Program, Activity, and Resource Campus on Route 30.

“PARC is located in the heart of our population center, in the heart of our county,” said Chester County Council of the Boy Scouts of America Executive Director Charles Rogers.

Only $1.7 million remains before construction can start on the 22,000-square-foot facility surrounded by 28.7 acres highlighted by a fishing stream, wetland, and future obstacle courses.

“This will touch a vast array of people,” Rogers said. “And the sooner we can raise the money, the sooner there will be an impact on the community.”
