A mother and her West Chester daughter are repainting the look and feel of the art gallery at Annex 24 in Lancaster, starting with a new, bigger canvas that welcomed its first brush strokes of activity during last weekend’s relaunch party.
The newly renamed Artist Studio and Gallery @ Annex 24 debuted with drinks, children’s activities, and the first of a monthly series of artist workshops under the direction of West Chester’s Dreya Moore.
Moore left a job as a chemist to be with her one-year-old daughter, and subsequently joined her mother, Jackie Moore-Ballard of Quarryville, as the Artist Studio’s new owners, according to a Lancaster Online report by Kathy Daminger.
And the Artist Studio relaunch set in motion a vision of being more than just a gallery of art.
“I want to be the place that artists go to when they have questions about how to build a following, how to be a better artist,’’ Moore said. “I want to be a resource. I want us to be the cool kid art gallery — a home to the new, totally cool, no-one’s-tried-this work. That’s who I want to be.
“I want to be innovative and up-and-coming and a friend to both established and emerging artists. You don’t want to discourage the next Picasso because they’re only 18.”
