Friday’s grand opening of the new LEGOLAND Discovery Center at Plymouth Meeting Mall was a hit with visitors who were eager to discover what this latest addition could offer, writes Suzette Parmley for Philly.com.

The attraction offers a variety of activities, from admiring the stunning Independence Hall display to the Bricks Motor Test Center where you can build a LEGO race car to race down a ramp.

Fronted by a giant giraffe made from the toy bricks, the new LEGOLAND’s first days were crowded with visitors both young and old looking to enjoy the magic of the LEGO experience.

“I like how you can build whatever you want and be as creative as you want,” said 11-year-old James from Warminster.

However, the 33,000-square-foot attraction may have a lot more riding on its shoulders after Macy’s, the main anchor, recently announced its closure putting the mall’s future in doubt.

“Part of the LEGOLAND solution is that it’s internet-proof,” said Joe Coradino, CEO of PREIT the owner of the Mall.

“You can’t go to dinner, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, or Dave & Buster’s online.”
