The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the 2017 Relay for Life of Central Chester County, which will take place for 24 hours, starting on Saturday, May 20 at 10 AM at the Downingtown West High School track.

Whether you are a first-time team captain or a seasoned veteran, you are part of a very special group of dedicated volunteers that is helping the American Cancer Society finish the fight by providing leadership and motivation.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature overnight fundraising activity. Teams gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation.

Relay for Life unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, and churches – people from all walks of life. Teams raise funds prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer.

The theme this year is “Sea a Cure.”

The Survivor Celebration of Life will be held on May 20 at 6 PM, and the Luminaria Ceremony will start at 9 PM.

“The event is very powerful and moving,” said Event Leadership Chair Dawn Kirsch. “We have an extremely dedicated committee that works very hard all year to put this on. It celebrates all cancer survivors, acknowledges caregivers, and, in a very touching and beautiful way, remembers those whom we have lost.

“Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting, family-friendly, community event have made a commitment to fight back against cancer.”

The Relay for Life of Central Chester County has raised more than $5 million in the last 22 years.
