Hard work, honesty, and the ability to enjoy the process are all essential in business, explains Rotelle Development’s CEO, Peter B. Rotelle, in an interview with the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Blue Bell native who graduated from Penn State currently runs the custom homebuilder firm that employs 30 in South Coventry.
He attributes his long-term success to being conservative in a risky business, something he considers one of his best decisions as CEO.
“During the recession, we weathered the storm by remaining steadfast and refusing to get caught up in the hype,” he said.
On the other hand, he said he regrets not following through on the company’s plan to get into the “for rent” market, something that was first put on the table two decades ago.
According to Rotelle, the way to keep a competitive edge in today’s market is to stay affiliated with industry groups and associations, continually challenge the company’s systems and business models, and to stay open to change, particularly as it relates to technology.
“We try to keep a few steps ahead of the crowd; otherwise we risk getting old, fast,” he said.
