Giving Never Tasted So Good as It Did Last Week at Sweet Charity

The General Warren Inne's Praline Pecan Cheesecake captured “Best Dessert” honors.

Hundreds of Chester County Community Foundation supporters converged upon the Whitford Country Club in Exton to sample desserts from some of the finest chefs in the area.

More than 400 people tried nine different desserts while mingling throughout the club.

The chefs, as always, held nothing back for this prestigious competition. Contestants, like John Serock Catering, spent months deliberating on what their original dessert would be, while others discovered ways to put a twist on a classic.

The professional culinary judges awarded “Best Dessert” to the General Warren Inne’s Praline Pecan Cheesecake. “Most Creative” was awarded to newcomer Milito’s Restaurant & Bar for its Funky Monkey, a banana-lover’s dream.

Guests also had a say in the judging with the “Most Popular” dessert. The White Chocolate Amaretto Dacquoise from Carlino’s Specialty Foods and the Chocolate Hazelnut Tortellini with Strawberry Cream Sauce from John Serock Catering came in a tie for first place.

“This event is such an incredible way to catch up with friends, while helping to raise awareness of how people can make strategic, lasting differences in their own communities, for now and forever,” said Robert Rigg, Chair of the Chester County Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. “It was great to partner with such a like-minded host as Whitford Country Club.”

For Whitford, the event was a particularly special one to host.

“With our community commitment in the Chester County Community Foundation, and the Whitford Charitable Fund being one of its funds, it was a great honor to assist in hosting the Sweet Charity Event this year,” said Thomas M. Czaus, the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Whitford Country Club.

“The excitement and yummy desserts presented by a great field of participants gave this year’s event a truly unique experience. A great time was achieved for a great cause!”

More than 60 corporations and leadership patrons helped make Sweet Charity a financial success, along with dessert donations, volunteer professional judges, and event volunteers.
