Count Jim McErlane, a senior partner and one of the founders of the West Chester law firm Lamb McErlane, as one of the many people impressed with the performance of Chester County’s Voter Services Department.
McErlane attended a recent meeting of the Chester County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 12 to praise Kara Rahn, Bill Christman, and the rest of their crew:
On Dec. 8, 9, and 10, we had the presidential recount, and I want to tell you that the performance of your Voter Services was absolutely exemplary. This was a situation where, literally, the nation’s spotlight was on Chester County in a very tight timeline, and your people made it happen and made it happen well.
It was almost statistically impossible that, of the 143 precincts that were under recount in Chester County, there could have been enough votes to switch Pennsylvania’s vote for (Donald) Trump. There was a difference of about 45,000 votes statewide. Your staff was under a very tight timeline, and it was a very crowded operation with Trump people there, Hillary Clinton people there. Your staff did an outstanding job, and they kept their cool.
I believe the goal of those who sought the recount was to disrupt the inauguration schedule. The statewide votes had to be certified by Tuesday, Dec. 13 for the Electoral College to vote on Dec. 19, which had to be one month before the Jan. 20 inauguration. Pennsylvania met the schedule imposed by federal law because of the superb performance of the county staff. Their planning and execution was outstanding, and all of Chester County is indebted to Voter Services.”
