Avondale’s Va La Vineyards Receives National Acclaim Despite Limited Production
Avondale’s Va La Vineyards may only produce six to eight different wines each year, but that has not stopped it from receiving national recognition for the superb quality of its products, writes Paul Vigna for the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
Va La Vineyards was named among the country’s Top 101 wineries by The Daily Meal in July for the third consecutive time. Its wines, all of which are dry, include skin-fermented whites, as well as red-field blends such as Mahogany and Cedar, which are similar to renowned, northern Italian wines. They cost around $50 with the latest vintages expected to be available soon.
Tastings at Va La Vineyards are $20 per person. Owner and winemaker Anthony Vietri said he came to the price by calculating the amount of wine, food, service, and several other factors, including the occasional live music.
The decision to charge for tastings did meet with some resistance, though.
“We try to be as up front with our pricing as possible and what we offer through website and social media, etc, so that folks can decide if they are interested,” said Vietri.
