QVC: Relationships Key to Leading in Business

By

Critical to the success of QVC has been the West Chester business’ focus on building powerful relationships, according to CEO Mike George.

While technology has been crucial to QVC’s success over the years, providing the “joy of serendipitous discovery” is more importantly linked to the “power of relationships” — a goal that is applicable across the business world, according to QVC President and CEO Mike George in a Daily Local News report by Cheryl Allison.

“In this impersonal world we live in, we’re about connecting people, connecting ideas … and earning trust,” George said as featured speaker of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Red Carpet Dinner last week. “We don’t chase technology for its own sake.”

George encouraged other businesses to develop leaders who know “how to really connect with your team in a way that is meaningful” and inspire those teams. The recent presidential election, he noted, is a prime example.

“We live in a world of big data and analytics. The data got it wrong this time. It didn’t understand the emotional connection, … the enthusiasm that was tapped into. … People want to be engaged in a real, authentic way, and when they are not engaged in a real, authentic way, there is a reaction.”
