They filled the skies and thrilled the crowds a year ago, and now the cold-air balloons of Starbound Entertainment are coming back to the QVC West Chester Christmas Parade.

“To offer this kind of entertainment and joy to children, it’s been a blessing,” Founder and CEO Toni McKay said. “There’s no other way to frame it.”

This year, McKay will feature four giant balloons, led by the Toy Soldier balloon in the AAA Candy Cane Division and Ruby the Reindeer in the Benchmark Toyland Division. Starbound’s debut a year ago was orchestrated by Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce President Mark Yoder and Under the Sun Productions Director Todd Marcocci.

“The parade Mark and Todd, along with their staffs, put on is absolutely one of the top five parades I’ve ever seen in my lifetime doing this,” McKay said. “It is superb. Out of this world.”

And Starbound has done a lot since it started in 1987 with a modest five-balloon inventory. “My idea of what the company should be was a few parades in the United States. Then it became, ‘Well, what states have we not been in yet?’” she said.

And countries, too. Her work has expanded globally to Santiago, Edinboro, Paris and a Millennium New Year’s Day romp through London where she recalls inflating at Westminster Abbey, telling time by Big Ben and sending the balloons on a march towards Trafalgar Square.
