Employment Data Suggests Chester County Prospering Relative to Rest of State, Nation

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry released its employment situation report for September 2016, and it reveals that Chester County (4.1 percent) currently has a lower unemployment rate than not only the rest of the state, but also the entire nation.

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was unchanged from August at 5.7 percent. Pennsylvania’s rate remained above that of the United States, which increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.0 percent in September.

According to the data, Chester County’s labor force consists of approximately 282,400 people, 11,400 of which are currently unemployed.

The per capita personal income in Chester County stands at $71,971, while the rest of Pennsylvania’s is at $47,679.

Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force was up 7,000 from August to 6,522,000. Resident employment increased by 5,000 while the unemployment count rose 1,000.
