County’s Wealthiest Resident Leaps 26 Spots on Annual Forbes 400 List

forbesChester County and Pennsylvania’s richest person is getting richer; Mary Alice Dorrance Malone climbed from No. 182 on last year’s Forbes 400 to No. 156 in 2016.

The 66-year-old Campbell Soup heir grew her net worth from $3.4 billion to $3.7 billion over the past year, an increase of almost 9 percent.

As “the largest shareholder of Campbell Soup, [Malone] sits on the company’s board along with her brother, Bennett,” according to Malone’s profile for the Forbes 400. “Her grandfather, John T. Dorrance, Sr., invented the condensed-soup formula and transformed the company in 1897.”

Malone is a devoted equestrian and lives in Coatesville on Iron Spring Farm, one of her “expansive estates and performance centers in Pennsylvania and Florida.”

She is also the 20th richest woman on the list, as well as the richest person in the state.
