aarpThanks to its dedication to providing safe and walkable streets, improved housing and transportation options, and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities, the Borough of West Chester has been inducted into the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities.

Becoming a member of the age-friendly network puts West Chester at the center of a growing national movement of livable communities that aim to meet the needs of all their residents.

West Chester University compiled a comprehensive action plan which included conducting assessments of borough services and programs and examining areas that improve or deter the health and well-being of its aging population.

Among those responsible for the prestigious designation are West Chester University, the office of the Mayor, Borough Council, the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, and numerous service providers in the area, including the Senior Center, the Hickman, and the Area Agency on Aging offices.

“West Chester is proud to have earned the WHO designation as an Age-Friendly Community,” said Mayor Carolyn Comitta. “We celebrate our diversity, our walkability, our vibrant downtown and our beautiful neighborhoods.”
