The centerpiece of the exhibition is a unique set of twelve paintings that trace the development of Chester County from frontier to farmland during its early history. This was the time when settlers began the transition of Pennsylvania from a colony to the cultural and financial center it is today.

The main focus of the show is Humphry Marshall, a botanist, astronomer, stonemason and farmer who helped Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon with their five year project known as the “last of the Lenape in Chester County.”

The series of original paintings presents a poetic narrative of events at that time and will be accompanied by artifacts from the CCHS collection and other guest exhibits. In creating the paintings, Martinez used his distinctive style that combines traditional classical techniques with his distinctive emotional vision.

The three hour event, titled ‘The Visionary World of Humphry Marshall 1750-1800’, begins 6:30 p.m. at the CCHS at 225 North High Street, West Chester. There is also the option of early admission and a tour with the artist from 5.pm. Tickets start at $50 for members and $75 for non-members.
