It took a tragedy in West Chester two years ago, but now the world is a safer place. The wrongful death lawsuit for 2-year-old Curren Collas, who was crushed to death beneath a fallen IKEA clothes dresser, has forced the Scandinavian furniture retailer to take its tip-over threat seriously and pull several dresser lines from stores, according to a West Chester Patch report by Justin Heinze.

The action also involves a recall and refund for IKEA customers who’ve purchased the vertical dressers.

“Every two weeks, a child dies in the U.S. from furniture, appliances or TVs tipping over, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. By working together, we can help prevent these tragedies and make the home a safer place,” IKEA stated in the article.

The lawsuit, filed by Collas’ mother, Jackie, was accompanied by a blog campaign that urged parents to anchor their home furniture.

“I wanted to share this because I want you to learn from my mistakes,” Collas wrote in that blog, Heaven Has a Hero, according to a Newtown Patch report by Kara Seymour. “Bolt EVERYTHING down. Dressers, book shelves, TVs, anything that could possibly fall.”
