Uber will be taking Chester County to work this summer; the increasingly popular ride sharing company recently struck a deal with SEPTA to offer 40 percent (up to $10) off an Uber ride to any of the 11 regional SEPTA train stations, including the Wayne and Exton stations.

The discount represents “one of the most significant partnerships between the company and a transportation agency in the country,” according to a Philly.com report by Jason Laughlin, and it will test a theory that on-demand ride sharing can help alleviate parking problems — most station parking lots fill by 7:30 a.m. — and boost train ridership into and out of the city.

“We will be studying it this summer,” SEPTA Director of Business Innovation Erik Johanson said in the article. “People are already doing this, so we know there’s a market for it.”

The Memorial Day to Labor Day pilot program comes at no cost to SEPTA, which initiated the arrangement and picked Uber over Lyft for its rollout.
