Chester County Municipalities Announce Memorial Day Plans

Parades abound in Chester County as several municipalities have announced their plans for marking Memorial Day. Avon Grove Memorial Day Parade is on Saturday from 9 a.m., the annual Marshallton Memorial Day Parade in West Bradford will set off the following day at 1:30 p.m., with Kennett Square, Oxford, and Downingtown parades all scheduled to be held on Monday. Malvern will hold its 143rd Annual Memorial Parade on June 5th.  

West Chester Area School District Adopts Budget With 2.7 Percent Tax Increase

On May 25th, the school board for the West Chester School District approved its final budget of $237.4 million. The budget comes with a tax increase of 2.7 percent, which equates to almost $97 for residents, a significant decrease from the preliminary and proposed budgets which had 4.1 and 3 percent increases respectively.

ArcelorMittal’s Wilson Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Alexander D. Wilson, who recently retired from ArcelorMittal, has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Steel Market Development Institute for his lasting contributions to the steel construction market. Wilson, a Coatesville resident, was crucial in the development and testing of new technologies for the bridge industry such as the now commonly used weathering and high-performance types of steel.
