Pottsville based D.G. Yuengling & Son brewery may be a well-known brand in the Philadelphia region, but now it is planning to increase its presence across the nation. To achieve this, Yuengling has started the largest marketing campaign in its history, reports Kenneth Hilario of Philadelphia Business Journal.

“We’ve got an amazing, passionate fan base that’s driven our success and popularity in Pennsylvania, but we realized once you get outside of our core home state and even within our home state, the awareness of our brand and the understanding of the components to our story as America’s oldest brewery was pretty low,” said Tyler Simpson, Yuengling’s Marketing Director.

Yuengling is the oldest operating brewing company in USA as it has been successfully brewing for almost 187 years. To launch its new marketing campaign called “Respect. It’s Earned”, the company has partnered with Allen & Gerritsen, the marketing agency based in Philadelphia and Boston.

Yuengling has done TV promotions in the past, but according to Simpson, this new 360-degree campaign will include an integrated message in all touch points, from TV spots to print and digital, with retail promotions included. Yuengling already has a solid footprint in 18 states and so far, has breweries in Pottsville and Tampa, Florida.

“Even within Pennsylvania, and how successful we’ve been to build our business, we still don’t have the top-of-mind awareness that many of the national craft brands or other breweries have,” Simpson explained, “so there’s a real opportunity for us to slowly chip away and build more people who are aware of our story.”

Even though the exact figures have not been disclosed, the company is apparently doubling its media spending for the campaign.

“There’s an opportunity for us to expose ourselves, and the authenticity, heritage and brewing credentials to more drinkers,” highlighted Simpson. “We’re optimistic it will help fuel our performance.”
