The 5k is a family-friendly untimed race.

Good fortune will fall from the sky on May 1 and score a hole in one for many Chester County individuals looking to get out of the financial rough. While one lucky winner will walk away from UPS-sponsored Helicopter Ball Drop fundraiser at Caln Township Park in Thorndale with the $1,000 grand prize, every ball entered will create a winner through its support of the United Way of Chester County Financial Stability Center.

“UPS Chesapeake District is proud to support the United Way of Chester County Helicopter Ball Drop fundraiser, especially because all of the proceeds benefit the United Way Financial Stability Center and help people in Chester County become financially stable and self-sufficient,” District Manager John Coombe said.

Among the thousand descending balls dropped from the helicopter at 12:30 p.m., the winner’s will be the one that falls closest to the pin. A runner-up prize of $300 and three random $100 winners will also be awarded during the event, which will kick off the United Way’s annual Live United in Color 5K Run & Walk.

UPS will cover all expenses for the fundraiser, enabling 100 percent of the proceeds to go toward the Financial Stability Center, which opened in 2014 with navigators and coaches who help people clarify financial goals, provide support and connect them to a set of services to achieve their goals, including employment services, financial education, benefit enrollment, budgeting and coaching, credit counseling and debt management, training and education, free tax preparation services, and other health and human services.

Along with UPS, the Brandywine Hospital is the event’s presenting sponsor. Sponsoring the color stations will be Comcast Internet Essentials, Will Anderson State Farm Insurance, DePuy Synthes, Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Solutions and Arthur J. Gallagher & Son, with Gateway Medical Associates sponsoring the color packets. Brandywine Valley Heating and Air Conditioning will cover the costs of sunglasses, YMCA Camp Tockwogh is supporting the entertainment, the Law Firm of Barry S. Rabin is sponsoring the water station and snacks will be sponsored by Herr’s. Only one color station sponsorship remains available.
