Fox Rothschild’s Attorney Ronald L. Williams, co-chair of the firm’s Construction Law Group, served as the keynote speaker for the recent American Bar Association’s Construction Law Section Conference.

The day-long conference, “Yes, You Can Try a Construction Case: Planning and Handling a Construction Trial From Voir Dire to Closing Argument,” offered skill demonstrations, lectures, moderated discussions and interactive question and answer sessions to broaden attendees’ understanding of how construction cases are tried.

As part of his keynote address, Williams, who works out of the firm’s Exton office, spoke on the intricacies of trying a case against a design professional. He discussed his recent work as lead counsel to the Community College of Philadelphia in a construction case involving claims of breach of contract and professional negligence in which a verdict was attained in excess of $5.5 million.

He also touched upon his work with Belgravia Condominium Association, a case in which he obtained a $5.05 million jury verdict defending the company against the developer and the engineering firm. At the time the case closed, it was the largest recovery in a condominium association case in the history of Pennsylvania.

Finally, he mentioned his work with Bob Harvey after his historic property, a home that had once served as a Civil War hospital, collapsed. The case resulted in $4 million in compensatory damages and $1.74 million punitive damages.

Williams serves as the Litigation Department administrative partner in the firm’s Exton office and focuses his practice on construction litigation and contracts. He handles construction litigation in multiple states in state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration. Williams’ experience includes construction and renovation projects for entertainment complexes, sports stadiums, hotels, malls, senior care facilities, surgical centers, office complexes, historical buildings, and schools and universities, among other facilities.

Williams has successfully defended builders and developers in construction defect cases involving structural components, product performance issues, water penetration and mold, insurance coverage issues and claims for property and personal injury loss.
