Four New Safehouses to be Built for Survivors of Domestic Violence

By

Board and staff members of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County join with Chester County Commissioners Terence Farrell, Kathi Cozzone and Michelle Kichline during the presentation of a $750,000 check to build four housing units for women.

More single women in Chester County will soon have a safe place to run to as they escape domestic violence. Overwhelmed with  women needing safehouses for the past two years, the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County has finally received some relief through a $750,000 federal grant to build four apartment units.

Commissioners presented the award check this week on behalf of the Chester County Department of Community Development. The units, consisting of a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom, are expected to be constructed late this year and finished in early 2017.

The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County helps more than 3,000 survivors and their children every year. Besides intervention and provision of safe housing, the center also educates about the problem of domestic violence and how to prevent it, reaches out to those affected by it and advocates for ways to reduce it.
