Chester County Briefs: County Gets Snowstorm Cash, Rivera Bows out of 158th Race, Fundraiser for Phoenixville Mural Happening, Delco Ends Contract with Brandywine SPCA, and More
$2.6 Million Reimbursement for January’s Snowstorm
The federal government has agreed to disaster assistance reimbursement to Chester County and the county’s municipalities of $2,665,073.00 for costs associated with the response to winter storm on January 22-23. That is about 75 percent of the amount requested by Chester County, and the County’s Commissioners are urging all county municipalities to the complete documentation needed for the reimbursement.
Rivera Quits his State Representative Campaign
Leonard Rivera, the Kennett Square attorney, ended his problematic campaign for state representative in the 158th district Monday, saying that his candidacy would be a distraction and would take away from the important issues facing the residents of his district. Rivera said his continued participation in the race to succeed incumbent state Representative Chris Ross would not be in the best interests of the voters.
Fundraiser Concert to Reinvent the Phoenixville Mural
In an effort to raise funds to reinvent Phoenixville’s Mural and Renaissance Park, the Mural Reinvention Community Coalition is holding a concert on Saturday, April 23rd, at the Steel City Coffeehouse downtown. The event will feature some of the region’s top musical acts including The Bannister Effect, Chris Holt, Cliff Hillis, and will be headlined by J.D. Malone and the Experts.
Delco Ending Contract with Brandywine Valley SPCA
The contract between the Brandywine Valley SPCA and the Delaware County Animal Protection Board that sends local strays to West Chester is ending on June 1 and will not be renewed. However, this will not mean that SPCA’s services will no longer be available to Delaware County municipalities, as they can enlist the organizations’ services themselves, but will be free to shop elsewhere as well.
Cheshire Races in Easter Spirit
This year, the start of the annual Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds Point to Point races landed on Easter Sunday, spicing up the first day of the event with Easter spirit. Traditionally the three day event in Delaware Valley starts the last Sunday in March which coincided with Easter Sunday this year and also brought a new attraction, the ladies side saddle race.
