CCCBI Names the United Way of Chester County Nonprofit of the Year

During the upcoming Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry’s annual Small Business Dinner, the United Way of Chester County will be honored as the 2016 Nonprofit of the Year.

The prestigious award will be presented on January 20th at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Malvern. The CCCBI hosts the event as a platform to support small business and recognize exceptional local contributions from both private and nonprofit sectors.

“Being named the nonprofit of the year is such an honor when you consider that there are so many really outstanding nonprofit organizations in Chester County,” said Claudia Hellebush, President and CEO of the United Way of Chester County. “It makes us very proud to stand out in a field where so many are leaders. We don’t think of this as just any award. This is prestigious, coming from the Chester County Chamber and we are very grateful for the recognition.”

Chief Garry Alderman Sworn in as Coatesville’s Fire Chief

During Monday night’s council meeting, Chief Garry Alderman, Coatesville’s former interim fire chief, was sworn in as the permanent fire chief.

Alderman, who was appointed the interim chief in June last year, took his oath of office with Judge Gregory Hines presiding and his wife, Wendie Alderman, holding the Bible.

Originally from the Coatesville area, Alderman started his nearly 50 year firefighting career with the Modena Fire Company, later serving as the fire chief for the Chester County HazMat Team. Alderman moved to South Carolina in 1999 where he served as the fire chief of Horry County Fire/Rescue for 12 years.

The new chief said he was happy to return to the city of Coatesville and is always excited to work with the staff and volunteers of the Coatesville Fire Department.

The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls’ youth philanthropy program, the Girls Advisory Board, has been awarded a 2015 EILEEN FISHER Activating Leadership Grant for Women under the theme ‘Achieving Personal Transformation’.

The $10,000 grant was awarded to the program to support and recognize the importance of its main goal, which is for young women who participate in the GAB to build their inner strength and confidence and emerge with leadership skills so they can continue into adulthood as socially conscious, civic leaders.

The grant secures the financial capital needed to implement the 2015 GAB program and ensure that the program’s curriculum aligns with the Fund’s 3-year strategic plan.

“We strongly feel that GAB is very important and needed in Greater Philadelphia”, said Reisa Brafman, the Social Consciousness Leader of Community Partnerships and Women’s Initiatives for EILEEN FISHER.  “The young women of GAB are true leaders.”
